Description:

Manufactured in 1851. The revolver has the distinctive combination of a square-back brass trigger guard and rectangular cylinder stop found only on 2nd Model Dragoons. The top flat of the half-round barrel is roll-stamped: " -ADDRESS SAML COLT NEW-YORK CITY-" in a single line reading toward the breech. The left side of the frame has the commercial, two-line "COLTS/PATENT" marking. The cylinder has traces of the roll-engraved ranger and Indian fight scene and "MODEL U.S.M.R./COLT'S PATENT" legend. The full serial number "9006" is stamped on the loading lever, barrel lug, frame, cylinder arbor pin, trigger guard and back strap. The barrel wedge is numbered "8409," and the cylinder is numbered "8966".

Rating Definition:

Good as refinished and assembled with the barrel, back strap, and trigger guard renumbered to match the frame. The revolver has been cleaned, and the barrel, loading lever, cylinder, frame and hammer have a gray-brown patina. The metal surfaces are smooth and free from pitting or dents. The edges of the barrel lug and frame are slightly rounded. The cylinder has traces of the roll-engraved scene and "U.S.M.R." legend. Only one cylinder safety pin remains. The brass trigger guard and back strap have a mellow age patina with minor handling wear. The one-piece walnut grip is in good condition; wear is limited to some rounding on the edges and small chips on the lower front edges. The action functions, but the spring is weak. Formerly from the Wil Hoffeld Collection.
