Description:

Manufactured in 1862. The barrel has the two-line Hartford address, the cylinder has the stagecoach hold-up scene, and the frame is marked "COLTS/PATENT" on the left side. Matching numbers appear on the barrel, frame, grip straps, cylinder, loading lever, barrel wedge, arbor pin and grip. The serial number on the grip is found in the back strap cut-out. According to the consignor, "This gun was taken from a Confederate major in the Civil War by John Hyman of Farmingdale, ILL. I bought it from his grandson, Edward Hyman." The National Park Service lists a John A. Hyman who served in the 78th Regiment, Illinois Infantry during the Civil War.

Rating Definition:

Good. The revolver has a bright mottled appearance with some minor pitting. Most of the cylinder scene remains. The grip straps retain 30% original silver plating with the exposed brass having an aged patina. The grip is fine with some scattered minor handling marks and overall crisp checkering. The action needs minor work as the cylinder does not always rotate when the action is cycled.
