Description:

Barrel top is marked "NEW HAVEN CONN. PATENT FEB 14, 1854" indicating that the pistol was manufactured after Volcanic's reorganization in April 1857 and the formation of the New Haven Arms Company. The company was formed to continue production of the former Volcanic Repeating Arms Company. These pistols were produced in 30 caliber and used the same basic frame as the original Volcanic. The serial number is marked on the left side of the frame under the grip panel and the matching number is stamped on the inside of each panel. The pistol has a blue barrel, casehardened lever and trigger with a brass frame, pinched blade front sight and dovetailed fixed iron rear sight. Fitted with two-piece, smooth, varnished walnut grips. Production of these scarce pistols ran from 1857 to 1860.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The barrel retains 50% original blue finish with a brown and gray patina on the balance. The hammer and lever have a smooth mottled gray patina. The frame has a very attractive aged patina. The grips are excellent with most of the original varnish remaining and showing some wear and minor nicks on the lower edges and a few overall scattered minor dings. The barrel marking remains crisp and clear. The action is fine with the lever retention spring being slightly weak.
