Description:

The Model 1777 was significantly different than most earlier and later military pistols. It has a Queen Anne style action and stock but a fixed barrel and was copied by North & Cheney and became the U.S. Model 1799, the first U.S. martial pistol. This example has a spurious "US" stamp on the left side of the stock above the butt cap. A fainter "8"marking is also visible on the stock above the rear of the trigger guard on the left. The pistol is marked "F/80" between the cock and pan indicating it was manufactured in 1780. The barrel also appears to be dated to 1780. Below the cock, "Charleville" is stamped in script.

Rating Definition:

Good. The iron has been cleaned and has mild pitting. The brass has dark aged patina. The stock has been lightly sanded and re-oiled and is very good with minor dings and marks. The action is mechanically fine, but the flash pan is cracked. Most of the markings are clear.
