This lot consists of two Swiss Model 1842 single shot, smoothbore military pistols. These pistols would have been issued to the Swiss cavalry even into the Franco-Prussian War era. The top of the barrels have "VAUD" followed by the serial numbers. The left side of the stock flats have coordinating markings vertically. "A. FRANCOTTE/LIEGE" markings are found on the barrels and locks, and proof and inspection marks are located on the left side of the barrels and on some of the small parts. Vaud is a cantonment (member state) in the western, French speaking part of the Swiss Confederacy. The pistols have blade front sights and lanyard swivels on the pommel caps.
