Description:

Sometimes attributed to Texas or Louisiana, this style of Foot Artillery sword is a well known Confederate pattern produced by an unknown number of small shops and backyard forges of the South. 24 3/8 inches overall, with a 19 inch straight double edged blade and a single piece brass hilt with raised "CS" letters on the guard, 5-pointed stars on the pommel and a spiral ribbed grip. The letters lack definition and the stars have absent/rough points, as is typical of the sort of rough casting seen on Confederate enlisted swords. "Confederate Edged Weapons" by Albaugh has more information. A black painted cedar scabbard fitted with a blackened iron tip and throat and a brass frog stud is included.

Rating Definition:

Very good with a mixed gray patina on the blade, a mustard tone to the hilt, and some mild spotting and handling marks overall. The scabbard shows a few mild chips and scuffs on the body and areas of pitting on the furniture.
