Description:

Lefaucheux revolvers were one of the few handguns used by both the North and South during the Civil War that used self-contained metallic cartridges. A total of 11,833 Model 1854 revolvers are believed to have been imported for use by the Union troops. They were also purchased and used by European militaries and were the first metallic cartridge handguns officially adopted by any national military. This example has the standard bead front sight on a triangular base, hammer notch rear sight, smooth grips, and lanyard ring and is marked with the Lefaucheux trademark crossed revolvers over "LF" followed by the serial number on the right side of the frame.

Rating Definition:

Fine with 70% bright original blue finish, traces of original case colors, brown and gray patina on the balance, and patches of bright oxidation. The grips are fine with small dings and scratches. The trigger does not reset properly, but the hammer does rotate the cylinder.
