Description:

This is early production Mauser Model 1896, six shot, small ring hammer semi-automatic pistol with the smaller bolo style frame. This pistol is somewhat unique in that it has the narrow back strap that is NOT cut for the wooden shoulder stock. This was an early design before the factory introduced and marketed the shoulder stock. This pistol was intended to be carried in a leather holster like a conventional pistol. The chamber area is marked "WAFFENFABRIK, MAUSER OBERNDORF, A/N," and the right rear side of the frame is marked with "WAFFENFABRIK MAUSER OBERNDORF A.Neckar". The left side of the chamber is stamped with a "double crown/U" proofmark along with the serial number. It has the short bolo style barrel with a banded front sight. The rear of the upper receiver is milled flat, and it is fitted with a fixed rear sight. It is fitted with a very nice set of custom, checkered walnut grips that fit the bolo frame perfectly. The bottom of the butt has the standard lanyard ring stud and ring. These six-shot Broomhandle pistols have the best feel and balance of all the 1896 pistols.

Rating Definition:

Fine with 97% of the restored blue finish overall with only minor edge and high spot wear. The smaller parts retain 98% of the heat blue finish. The refinished walnut grips are in fine condition with nice, sharp, distinct recut checkering on both sides.
