Description:

This is a very good example of a very late production, Mauser Model 1896, large ring hammer, bolo frame pistol with the gutta percha floral grip. This pistol has the late style adjustable rear sight and along with the slotted back strap. This was the very last series of "large ring" Broomhandle pistols; shortly after this model, they changed to the small ring pistols, which remained in production until the late 1930s. The top of the chamber area is marked "WAFFENFABRIK, MAUSER OBERNDORF, A/N," and the right rear side of the frame is marked with "WAFFENFABRIK MAUSER OBERNDORF A.Neckar". The left side of the chamber is stamped with a "double crown/U" proofmark along with serial number "4440316." It has the short bolo style barrel with a banded front sight mated to the matching bolo style frame and is fitted with the gutta percha (hard rubber) grips with the floral pattern on each grip. Each grip is serial numbered (scratched) "29605" on the back. The rear of the upper receiver has a standard adjustable rear sight graduated "100-1000". It has the standard lanyard ring stud (only) on the butt of the frame.

Rating Definition:

Very good with most of an old restored blue finish with only minor edge and high spot wear overall. The markings are clear and distinct. The reproduction grips are in fine condition with nice floral pattern on each side showing only minor wear. A representative example of a late production, large ring, bolo frame Broomhandle pistol.
