Description:

This is an example of a 1920 type Luger Carbine based on an original 1906 type Luger pistol. These early Luger carbines have always been a highly desirable with this example being a post WWI manufactured carbine that could have been sold by one of the large import companies in the US. This example has a blank chamber with the DWM markings on the front toggle. It has been professionally fitted with a correct style front frame extension with a 1920 style forend and carbine stock. The left side of the barrel extension and breech block are both correctly stamped with a "Crown/N" commercial proof and the left side frame rail is stamped "MADE IN GERMANY" indicating it was intended for export out of Germany. Currently it is fitted with a 12 inch long, 1920 style carbine barrel that has a small recoil lug mounted on the underside of the barrel. It has been fitted with a short forend and with the small accelerator inside and the forend has been scribed inside with serial number "54". The barrel has a carbine style ramp front sight with a rear sight base soldered onto the breech end of the barrel which has a three position carbine style rear sight installed. The rear underside of the barrel and the top of the recoil lug (on the barrel extension) are both stamped "54". The majority of the parts are stamped with serial number "54". The extractor is marked "GELADEN" and it has the altered first type safety area, where the "GESICHERT" markings have been milled off but not remarked. It is fitted with unnumbered checkered grips, a checkered forend and shoulder stock. The forearm has the correct Schnabel tip with coarse 1920 style checkering on both sides. The pistol is complete with a 1920 style walnut shoulder stock with a blued attaching iron that is numbered "32" on the underside of the iron. It has coarser type checkering in the grip area and is fitted with a serrated hard rubber buttplate with a lower sling swivel on the underside of the stock. This very nice looking rig is complete with four magazines, all with unnumbered/unmarked wooden bases. This Luger carbine rig includes a reproduction leather sling, unmarked takedown tool, a wood handled cleaning rod with several wire bore brushes. It is all stored in a period custom case with six compartment for the Luger, shoulder stock and accessories. The case itself has a black leatherette cover with dark green felt interior.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 90% of the refurbished blue finish overall with only minor edge and high spot wear. The smaller parts retain 80% of their straw colors fading slightly on the exposed areas. The forend, grips and stock are all in very fine condition with all three showing a few minor handling marks in couple areas of the checkering with some minor handling marks on the sides of he shoulder stock. The stock itself does show some very nice figure on both sides and the grips and forend both have a slightly darker color overall. The custom case is in very good condition with all the outer covering intact, showing only minor wear and scuffing on the corners and the front center section of the lid above the carrying handle. The locks and hinges are all intact. A nice looking late production DWM model 1920 Luger carbine rig.
