Description:

This is a very fine example of an original DWM Model 1902 Luger carbine rig that is complete with the correct walnut shoulder stock. These carbines were an early attempt by DWM to a produce a light weight rifle substitute to compete with the Mauser Broomhandle carbines as well as all the other stocked pistols being manufactured in the later 19th and early 20th century in Europe. The unique Lugers have the desirable longer 11 3/4 inch barrel with DWM factory installed frame hanger that holds the small walnut forend. This forend is also unique in that it houses a small spring accelerator that helps cycle the heavier/longer carbine length barrel assembly during firing. These 1902 Luger carbines all have early rare features such as: the long old style frame, flat mainspring, grip safety, dished toggles with toggle locks, and the recessed/flat breech bolt with the small spring extractor. The top of the chamber is blank and the front toggle has the "Deutsche Waffen und Munitions Fabriken", DWM logo. The full serial number (24107) is stamped on the underside of the frame extension and barrel, and the last two digits of the serial number (07) are stamped on the various other parts such as the recoil lug, side of the grip safety, trigger, takedown lever, side plate, breech bolt and toggle assembly with the forend numbered (3 107) inside the cutout for the frame extension and correctly matches the frame; the 3 is sideways and appears to be a sub inspector number. The grips are not numbered on the back side, but each one has a small asterisk stamp on the back sides. This excellent example of a Luger carbine has the original walnut shoulder stock with an original replacement attaching iron that is not numbered but matches the pistol perfectly. The pistol is complete with a single nickel plated magazine with an original unnumbered walnut base.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 90% plus blue finish remaining, edge and high spot wear, and wear and thinning on the grip straps. The walnut grips are in fine condition with nice original checkering with wear across the checkering and several light pressure dents. The forend and stock are both in fine condition with only very minor handling marks and nice distinct checkering. As noted, the replacement stock iron is unnumbered, and it retains 90% of its original blue finish. A very nice example of a late production, rare DWM Model 1902 Luger Carbine.
