Description:

This is a very fine example of an early DWM Model 1908 military contract Luger pistol that was manufactured circa 1908-1909. These are considered as the actual first true German military contract Lugers and are generally found in the serial number block of 34 to 4828b, with this example being in the "a" suffix block of serial numbers. They are also easily identified by the undated chamber area and lack of a stock lug. The other notable features is that they also proofed on the left side of the barrel extension vs. the right side which later became the standard configuration in 1909/10. This example was also originally issued with no hold open device and was later returned to the DWM factory and refitted with one as it has the small pin through the right side receiver rail along with a small "crown/D" military proof next to the pin. It has the standard "DWM" marked front toggle. It has the early style smaller "GESICHERT" marked safety area and loaded markings. The front grip strap is marked "K.9". It was numbered in the correct military manner with the full serial number on the major components and the last two digits on the various other parts. It is fitted with set of unnumbered or proofed, checkered walnut grips, blued primary metal parts, and straw colored smaller parts. It comes complete with a nickel plated magazine with an unmarked wooden base.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 90% plus of the original blue finish overall, edge and high spot wear, and considerable thinning and browning spotting on the grip straps and side plate. The smaller parts retain 95% of their restrawed colors overall. The grips are excellent condition with nice, distinct, checkering overall showing only very minor handling marks. A really nice example of an early 1908 military contract Luger pistol.
