Description:

This is a representative example of a Mauser Model 1912/14 semi-automatic pistol, serial number "96" chambered in 9 mm Luger, that is complete with a professionally made copy of a combination walnut shoulder stock/holster, that is unnumbered, either on the stock or the attaching iron. This pistol design was based on the smaller Mauser Model 1910 pistol only scaled up to use the larger 9 mm Luger cartridge. It is estimated that between 150-200 of these pistols were ever manufactured with the highest recorded serial number being "176", with only a very small number even known to exist today. As an example, the sales records from Hans Tauscher only lists 8 as being sold by him in the U.S. during the 1914-16 time frame. The combination wooden shoulder stock/holster is patterned after the early Model 1896 Broomhandle pistol. This specific pistol (serial number 96) is not listed in any of the current Mauser reference books, so it maybe somewhat new to the market. It has the earlier straight/1910 style grip frame, the solid back strap is cut for a combination walnut shoulder stock/holster, which is included with this rare pistol. It has the standard fixed front and rear sights. The slide is roll marked in one line, "WAFFENFABRIK MAUSER OBERNDORF A.N. MAUSER'S PATENT". The serial number "96" is stamped on the frame, slide, barrel, trigger, barrel release, safety lever, safety release spring, back of the magazine, and side plate. The grips are unnumbered. The pistol was finished in a rust blue on the major parts including the barrel latch, safety lever, trigger and rear sight. Some internal parts have a Mauser heat blue finish. It is fitted with a one-piece set of checkered walnut grips that has a factory opening cut through the rear of the grip for the stock lug. As noted, this rare pistol comes with a very nice copy of a early combination shoulder stock/holster. The stock is fitted with a Broomhandle type unnumbered attaching iron with the metal parts having a nice heat blued finish. The lid has also been nicely checkered in a heavy coarse pattern.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 95% of a professionally restored blue finish overall, showing only very minor edge wear. The markings are clear and distinct, with the edges and flats correctly polished. The smaller parts also show their professionally restored heat blued finishes. The refinished grips are very fine condition with recut checkering on both sides with only minor handling marks. The professionally made reproduction walnut stock is in very fine condition with only a couple of handling marks on the sides. The metal parts retain 85% of their heat blued metal finish. Nonetheless, this is a very scarce Mauser Model 1912/14 Semi-Automatic pistol.
