Description:

This is an excellent example of a post-war, commercial Model 1928A1 Thompson Submachine Gun manufactured by the Auto-Ordnance Corporation of West Hurley, New York, c. 1980. The West Hurley Thompson Submachine Guns were newly manufactured machine guns capable of automatic or semi-automatic fire. They feature new production receivers and trigger frames that may have some WWII era surplus parts. This gun duplicates the pre-war military version of the Colt/Auto-Ordnance Model 1928 Navy Over-Stamp Thompson that was purchased in small numbers by the Navy, Marine Corps and Army. The gun has a blue finish with straight grain American walnut stock, forearm and pistol grip. The gun has many of the features found on pre-war Colt and wartime Auto-Ordnance and Savage Model 1928/1928A1 Thompson Submachine guns including: an unmarked Cutts type compensator, finned barrel, bolt actuator mounted in the top of the receiver; adjustable, folding leaf, rear sight; and detachable buttstock. The receiver is notched to accept 50 or 100 round drum magazines. The stock and forearm have military sling swivels. The gun utilizes a number of WWII or post-WWII components that were not utilized on the Colt/Auto-Ordnance Model 1928 Thompsons; these parts include: (1)un-checkered/re-shaped bolt actuator (2) Model 1917 Enfield folding leaf rear sight (3) simplified M1/M1A1 pivot pin and safety and late style stock with cross-bolt reinforcement. The markings on this gun are different from pre-war or WWII Colt/Auto-Ordnance/Savage Model 1928 and Model 1928A1 Thompsons. The Auto-Ordnance "bullet" trademark is roll-stamped on the top of the receiver in front of the rear sight. The left side of the receiver is roll-stamped in two lines with "U.S. MODEL 1928/N0. A.O.C.139A" followed by "THOMPSON SUBMACHINE GUN/CALIBER .45 M1". The right side of the receiver is roll-stamped in two blocks "U.S. PATENT" over the six-line patent numbers and "AUTO-ORDNANCE CORPORATION/WEST HURLEY, NEW YORK, U.S.A." The trigger frame is not serial numbered. The gun is complete with a Thompson marked soft case, three books, three stick magazines, and one Auto-Ordnance/West Hurley marked 50 round drum magazine.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 98% of the original blue finish overall with only minor edge and high spot wear. The wood components are also in excellent condition with only very minor handling marks on the sides. NOTE: This weapon is a National Firearms Act (NFA), fully transferable Class 3 machine gun, which is registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, (BATFE) under the provisions of 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 478.
