Description:

This is a very nice example of a prototype Colt Woodsman pistol. The entire series of 22 caliber Colt semi-automatic pistols was begun by John M. Browning and Colt Engineers George Tansley and Francis Chadwick. This series was introduced in 1915. The left side of the barrel is marked with "COLT'S MFG. CO. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A." and the Rampant Colt over "WOODSMAN," and the left side of the slide is marked "COLT AUTOMATIC/CAL. .22 LONG RIFLE." The serial number "17X" is on the right side of the frame. Adjustable front and rear sights. Serrated grip straps. The heel of the back strap is cut out and equipped for a lanyard, the Colt marked blue magazine has a much larger pull down knob on the follower than normal, and the frame is cut out larger to accommodate it. Fitted with checkered plastic woodgrain grips with the Rampant Colt in a circle on the upper right grip panel.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. 97% plus of the original blue finish remains with muzzle and edge wear, some scattered scratches, mainly on the top of the slide, and some grip strap wear. The grips are very fine with scattered scratches and dings and sharp checkering. The markings are clear. Mechanically excellent.
