This Model 1836 flintlock pistol was manufactured by Robert Johnson of Middletown, Connecticut, in 1842 and has the standard markings and features. The Model 1836 is considered the finest of all U.S. martial flintlock pistols and many were converted to percussion making original examples like this particularly desirable.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The lock and barrel tang have light oil quenched case colors and gray patina. The pan has dark aged patina. The remaining metal surfaces are fairly bright with mild patina. There is some mild pitting in patches isolated near the muzzle. The stock is very fine and has some extremely minor chipping, particularly on the right flat, and light handling and storage marks. The markings, including the cartouches, are crisp, and the lock is mechanically excellent.
