This is a nice example of a .600 Express caliber double rifle manufactured by W.J. Jeffery & Co. of London, England, producers of high quality custom built shotguns and rifles that have been used by wealthy big game sportsmen for years. They produce guns under their own banner and also as contractors for other distributors. This rifle was made for Lyon & Lyon, Calcutta. This rifle features a concaved matte rib with a ramped blade front sight and a 3 leaf (two folding, one standing) express rear sight on the quarter rib with a dolls head extension. The barrel flats are marked with "crown/GP" and "crown/V" British proofs and "600 EX". They are also marked "900 GRS BULLET MAXM" and "1000 GRS CORDITE". The underside of each barrel is marked "-SPECIAL - GUN/ -BARREL-STEEL" and "-FRIED. KRUPP/-ESSEN-". The top of the right barrel near the breech is marked "W.J. JEFFERY & CO MAKERS", and the top of the left barrel is marked "13 KING ST. ST. JAMES ST. LONDON." The top of the right barrel "MADE EXPRESSLY FOR" and "LYON & LYON CALCUTTA" on the left. There is a 1 1/2 inch wedge of floral scroll engraving with a punch dot background on the muzzle end of the barrels and a 2 1/2 inch wedge of the same engraving on the breech end. There is a sling eye mounted on the underside of the rib. The Roulx Lock receiver and trigger guard under break lever are engraved with a floral scroll design with a punch dot background. Each side of the receiver has a gold inlaid relief engraved elephant with white gold tusks. The water table is marked with two "crown/V" proofmarks. The same floral scroll and pinch dot design extends to the forearm hardware. The inside of the forearm hardware is marked "PATENT/EJECTOR". It features: ejectors, tang mounted manual safety with gold "SAFE", double triggers, and is mounted with a multi-point checkered deluxe straight grain walnut forearm and pistol grip stock with teardrop flats, engraved metal grip cap, solid Pachmayr recoil pad, sling swivel eye and silver initial oval. The drop at comb is 2 inches, drop at heel is 3 1/2 inches, and length of pull is 14 1/2 inches.

Very fine as professionally custom embellished with 99% blue finish remaining. There is some minor pitting under the finish under the forearm. All of the gold inlay remains. The wood has been freshened some time ago and remains very good with a few minor pressure dents and handling marks. The checkering is sharp. Mechanically excellent.
