Description:

Carbine length barrel with the receiver marked "U.S./MODEL 1898, SPRINGFIELD ARMORY" followed by the serial number (139731) that falls out of the Model 1898 carbine serial range (118000-134000). It is fitted with a pinned fixed blade front sight and a Model 1898 type rear sight. Polished bolt. Fitted with the long forearm without the hump and a straight grip stock without provisions for a saddle ring. The buttstock has a sling swivel base (with swing swivel hole filed) marked "OALW / 148" and a buttplate with trapdoor. The left side of the wrist is stamped with a boxed "JSA/1899" cartouche and "0/44" over a circled script "P" stamped behind the trigger.

Rating Definition:

Refinished. The barrel has a brown patina. The buttplate, barrel band and trigger guard retain nearly 98% of the blue finish with loss mostly on the high edges and some minor scratches. The receiver has a mixed brown patina with some finished over pin prick pitting. The refinished wood is fine with some scattered minor scratches. The restamped stock markings are clear and crisp. Mechanically fine.
