The included Cody Firearms Museum Records Office serial number verification form confirms the caliber, octagon barrel and plain trigger. The serial number was applied on December 22, 1893. The rifle was received in the warehouse on February 7, 1894, and was shipped on August 6, 1894. The rifle is equipped with a blade front sight, folding ladder rear sight and folding tang peep sight. The top barrel flat is marked with the two-line address ahead of the rear sight and "45-70" at the breech. The lower tang has the two-line patent information behind the trigger and the serial number behind the lever. The receiver is casehardened. Mounted with a smooth forearm and straight grip stock with crescent buttplate.

Fine. The barrel and magazine tube retains 40% original blue finish with the balance a smooth brown-gray patina. The frame retains areas of bright original case colors in and around the protected areas, otherwise faded mostly to a silver-gray. Traces of original case colors remain on the hammer and lever. The buttplate has a mottled gray patina. The wood is also fine with some very scattered minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent
