Description:

Manufactured in 1898. The top barrel flat ahead of the rear sight is marked with the two-line address and "38-55" at the breech. Windage adjustable beaded blade front and adjustable semi-buckhorn rear sights. There is a tang mounted short range peep sight. Serial number is marked on the underside of the receiver. Blue finish with casehardened hammer and lever and mounted with a smooth walnut forearm with steel end cap and straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate. The accompanying factory letter states that the serial number was applied on March 7, 1898, and verifies the rifle configuration, caliber, octagon barrel, plain trigger, and that it was received in the warehouse on April 8, 1898, and shipped out on September 30, 1898, to order number 8237.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The rifle retains 75% original blue finish with some scattered very light spotting, some edge wear, some thinning and some light flaking. Much of the somewhat faded original case colors remain on the hammer and lever with a smooth mottled brownish gray patina on the balance. The wood is fine with a couple minor gouges and some minor dents and some scratches. The markings are sharp. The action is excellent.
