Manufactured in 1896, the second year of production and serialized with a two digit number, 64. This rifle is 1 of only 5,000 manufactured with the flat side receiver. The rifle is equipped with a dovetailed blade front sight and an elevation adjustable rear sight on a barrel marked "38-72 WCF" on the top flat at the breech. The Winchester factory oval proof is stamped on top of the barrel and receiver at the breech, indicating that the rifle was returned in the factory sometime in the 20th century (likely to be rebarreled). The upper tang is marked "WINCHESTER/MODEL 1895." Directly behind the trigger it is marked "PAT NOV. 5, 1895/-- NOV. 12, 1895 --." The very low serial number "64" is marked on the lower tang. Mounted with a smooth tapered walnut forearm with an ebony insert and straight grip stock with a steel crescent buttplate.

Fine as factory rebarreled. The rifle retains 80% original blue finish with the balance a smooth brown patina. There is some minor spotting on the buttplate. The wood is also fine showing a couple minor gouges and some minor pressure dents and scratches. Mechanically excellent. A hard to find flat side Model 1895 with an even harder to find two digit serial number.
