Description:

This rifle has the very thin butt, long lock, and handmade percussion hammer style popular in the Bedford region throughout the 19th century. It is signed "A*T*W" in a banner on the top of the barrel. "ATW" is listed as an unknown maker in Bedford. The region's gunmakers continued building handmade locks and traditional rifles longer than the majority of the country. This rifle has a spire point patch box, 19 German silver inlays, and false flame figure on the stock.

Rating Definition:

Good with a blend of gray and brown patina on the barrel, bluish original case colors on the lock, moderate oxidation and pitting concentrated mostly at the breech, aged patina on the brass and German silver, and minor tool marks on the barrel. The stock has distinct striped finish, some minor chipping and cracking around the lock nose, flash wear at the breech, and light scratches. Mechanically fair needs some adjustments to function properly and consistently.
