Description:

Manufactured in 1880. The top of the barrel is marked with the one-line address and the underside is marked "P" and "D.F.C." directly ahead of the cylinder pin. The left side of the frame is marked with the three line, three patent dates followed by "U.S." The loading gate is marked with the assembly number "1692". The cylinder is marked with the letter "P" and "D.F.C.", the bottom of the frame above the serial number is marked "D.F.C." and there is a letter "H" in the hammer well. The matching serial number is marked on the frame, trigger guard and back strap, and the partial serial number "1839" is marked on the barrel under the ejector housing. The replaced "DFC" inspected cylinder is marked "2697". Blade front and frame notch rear sights, "bulls-eye" ejector rod head, and fitted with a smooth one-piece walnut grip with "1880" over an oval "CCM" cartouche. On the left side and a faint "DFC" on the right side. The accompanying factory letter verifies the caliber, blue finish with barrel length and grips as "Not Listed" and that it was shipped as 1 of 100 to the U.S. Government Inspector at the Colt plant on December 30, 1880. It also states that a 7 1/2 inch barrel and walnut grips would be considered standard issue for the time period.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The metal surfaces have a smooth mottled gray patina with a small amount of very minor pitting on the muzzle. The grip is also very good with some lower edge wear as well as a few small nicks on the lower edges and a few minor dings. The right side cartouche is faint, but legible, and the left side is clear. The markings are clear. The action is excellent.
