Description:

This is an excellent cased Colt Model 2, 1855 Model Sidehammer Pocket .28 caliber revolver manufactured in 1858. The Model 2 Sidehammer revolver serial numbers range from 467-25000. This revolver has a 3-1/2 inch octagon barrel with the second style Hartford address with pointing hand. The loading lever has an octagon base. The cylinder is roll-engraved with the cabin and Indian scene and "COLT'S PATENT". The serial number "18047" is stamped on the underside of the barrel, the side of the cylinder and the butt. The five-shot cylinder has a factory over-stamp with "7" stamped over a "6" in the serial number. All of the visible serial numbers match. The revolver has the Colt high polish blue finish on the barrel, frame and cylinder. The loading lever, hammer and cylinder pin are color casehardened. The spur trigger is niter blue. The revolver has a one-piece varnished walnut grip with high polish piano finish. The revolver is complete with a Colt American style mahogany case with red velvet lining and five compartments. The case contains: (1) a blued double cavity bullet mold with "COLT'S/PATENT" stamped on the sprue cutter, (2) a Pocket Model fixed charger powder flask embossed on one side of the brown lacquer body with "COLTS/PATENT" in two lines over stars, an eagle and shield, detailed crossed resolvers and "E. PLURIBUS UNUM" on a ribbon, (3) niter blue L-shaped screwdriver, (4) 100 count tin of Eley Bros. percussion caps with green paper label and (5) glass oil bottle with cork stopper.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The revolver retains 90% of the high polish commercial blue finish. The blue finish on the rear 1/3 of the cylinder has flaked, but nearly all of the blue finish is on the barrel and frame. The hammer, loading lever and cylinder pin retain nearly all of the vivid case colors. Most of the fire blue finish is present on the spur trigger and screws. The cylinder has nearly 100% of the cabin and Indian roll scene. The barrel legend and serial numbers are crisp. The walnut grip is nearly new condition and has at least 98% of the piano finish. The case exterior is in very good condition with minor handling marks; the brass lock face has been removed presumably to open the case after the key was lost. The case interior is in fine condition. The red velvet lining is slightly faded. There are faint oil stains on the lid lining and darker stains in the case bottom from contact with the revolver barrel, cylinder and grip. There is a small tear in the lining on one partition from contact with the brass cone front sight. The bullet mold is in excellent condition and retains at least 95% of the original dull blue finish. The flask is in very fine condition with at least 90% of the gold plated, niter blue and lacquer finish. The back of the flask body has some age spotting and one tiny dent. The cap tin is in very good condition with most of the lacquer finish and very good green paper label. The screwdriver retains at least 90% of the fire blue finish. This is an outstanding example of a factory cased Colt Model 1855 Sidehammer revolver.
