Description:

Manufactured in 1864, this is a very fine Civil War era example of a cased Colt Model 1849 percussion revolver. The top barrel flat is marked with the one-line New York City address. The left side of the frame is marked "COLTS/PATENT." The left side of the trigger guard is marked "31 CAL" and "7." The cylinder has the stagecoach hold up scene and is marked "COLTS PATENT/50833." The matching numbers are marked on the barrel, frame, trigger guard, back strap, cylinder, loading lever, arbor pin and barrel wedge. Casehardened frame, hammer and loading lever, silver plated brass trigger guard and back strap, and blue remaining parts. Fitted with a smooth one piece varnished walnut grip. The partitioned case is lined in velvet and contains Eley Brothers cap tin, lead balls, case key, sealed package of combustible envelope cartridges, single face Colt's patent eagle powder flask, "COLT'S/PATENT" and "31PKT" marked double cavity bullet mold and combination tool.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The barrel and cylinder retain 85% original blue finish showing thinning to a brown. The hammer, loading lever and frame retain 90% plus original case colors. The cylinder has moderate flash pitting on the face and has been professionally refinished. The grip straps have an attractive patina. The grip is excellent showing some scattered minor handling marks and retaining most of the original varnish. Mechanically excellent. The accessories are fine with a refinished combination tool. The case is very good with a loose lid, minor to moderate handling/storage marks and moderate high spot wear on the lining.
