Description:

Manufactured in 1861, the first year production with serial number 17. The very low two digit serial number is stamped on the barrel, frame, trigger guard, back strap, loading lever (left side), plunger (underside), and wedge. There are several features on this revolver that distinguish it from later production models and include the following: serialized loading lever and plunger; larger serial number font, frame devoid of the "COLTS/PATENT" marking, recoil shield without the capping groove, larger loading slot and the "PAT. SEPT. 10th 1850" information marked within two of the cylinder flutes. The top of the barrel has the early sought after one-line Hartford address flanked by dashes. The left side of the trigger guard is marked with the number "2." Fitted with a smooth varnished walnut grip.

Rating Definition:

Very good plus. The revolver has a mottled gray patina. There are a few patches of minor pitting. The grip straps retain 40% original silver plating. The grip is excellent showing some high edge war and some minor handling marks with most of the finish remaining. Mechanically excellent. A very early Model 1862 revolver with unique features that is needed in any serious Colt percussion revolver collection to be considered complete.
