Description:

Manufactured in 1847, the first year of production. The top barrel flat is marked with the early production two-line New York City address without brackets. The three digit serial number "472" is marked on the barrel, frame, trigger guard, back strap, barrel wedge and cylinder. The 5-shot cylinder has the Texas Ranger and Indian scene, round stops and "COLTS PATENT" marking behind the serial number. "COLTS/PATENT" is marked on the left side of the frame. The barrel and cylinder were finished blue while the frame and hammer were casehardened and the trigger guard and back strap silver plated. It has brass grip straps, square back trigger guard and one-piece grip. Colt manufactured approximately 15,500 of these revolvers from 1847 to 1850.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The revolver has a dark, mottled gray patina showing limited traces of original blue finish in the protected areas of the barrel. Half of the cylinder scene remains. The barrel wedge retention screw is missing the head, and the back strap has been crudely repaired with a piece of silver. The grip straps retain traces of original silver plating in the protected with the exposed brass having an aged patina. There are a few notches present on the front grip strap. The grip is good as refinished with heavily sanded bottom and a few minor handling marks. Mechanically fine.
