Description:

This pistol has Deringer's distinctive faux Damascus finish on the barrel, a dovetailed German silver blade front sight, "DERINGER"/PHILADELA" on the breech and lock, "P" flanked by wavy lines on the upper left flat, silver bands on the breech, and engraved German silver furniture. Multiple similar examples are pictured in "The Deringer in America Volume One: the Percussion Period" including one on page 38. Some early copies by Slotter & Co. are also very similar since the Schlotterbeck brothers were former workmen at Deringer's shop and directly copied his designs and technique.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The barrel retains 60% of the striped brown and gray "Damascus" pattern finish and has a patch of light oxidation on top. The lock has faded original case colors and dark gray patina. The German silver remains mostly bright. The engraving and markings remain crisp. The stock is fine with a crack ahead of the right wedge escutcheon, crisp checkering, and minor marks and scratches. The lock is mechanically fine.
