Description:

This pistol is marked "SLOTTER/& Co. PHILA" on the lock and breech and also has a "P" stamp at the breech on the left. The thumb plate is inscribed "Geo. W. Lower/Phila." There is a father and son named George W. Lower Sr. and Jr. (1844-1913) from Philadelphia in the mid-19th century. Another George W. Lower (1839-1921) was an officer in the 84th and 57th Pennsylvania Infantry Regiments during the Civil War and rose to the rank of at least a 2nd lieutenant. A .50 caliber single shot pistol certainly would have been a useful back up weapon.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The barrel and lock primarily display gray patina and have patches of mild pitting. The German silver has lightly aged. The refinished stock is very good and has crisp checkering and minor handling and storage type marks. The lock is mechanically fine, and the markings are crisp.
