Description:

This matching pair of relief engraved and silver inlaid percussion pistols were manufactured by F. Adam Kuchenreuter of Regensburg, Germany, the once cultural center to southern Germany in the Middle Ages. The Kuchenreuter family had been in the business of gunsmithing in Regensburg since the 1700s. The brown finished barrel features silver inlaid foliate patterns on the upper left and right flats and single silver inlaid bands at the breech and muzzle. The top barrel flat has "F. ADAM KUCHENREUTER IN REGENSBURG" in silver inlay. Most of the metal surfaces exhibit a relief floral scroll engraving which incorporates medieval figures on the lock plate, trigger guard and hammer. The pistol is fitted with a fish sculpted hammer, hammer safety, fixed sights and a set trigger. The side plate has engraved floral scrollwork and birds. The half stock has a fluted grip, grip cap and relief carved floral pattern around the barrel tang and forend tip. A blank silver initial inlay appears on the underside of the forearm. The case is fitted for both pistols and various accessories which include a mallet/cleaning rod, nipple wrench and screwdriver with silver shield inlays on the handles, wad cutter, bullet mold, key, clamp, powder flask and powder measure.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The barrel retains 95% plus original brown finish showing some light high edge wear. The remaining metal surfaces feature a smooth gray patina. The stock is excellent with a few minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent. The case is fine showing some cracking, minor handling/storage marks and some high spot wear on the lining.
