Description:

These pistols were likely manufactured in Continental Europe in the 1820s-1840s and have the slightly curved locks with bevelled edges common early on in the flintlock era, especially in France and the Netherlands. The barrels have partial ribs, blade front sights, light engraving at the breech ends, and engraved brass tangs with "scoops" for rear sights. The other furniture is also brass, including the pierced side plates and the fluted pommel caps on the "bird's head" stocks which have horn forend caps and attractive raised carving including Baroque floral designs at the breech. The ramrods also have horn forend tips.

Rating Definition:

Very good with rough oxidation concentrated near the muzzle, dark brown and gray patina on the barrel and lock, aged patina on the brass, a crack and repair at the tail of the lock inlet, fairly crisp stock carving, chipping on the ramrod tip, and scattered small dings and scratches on both the wood and metal. Mechanically fine.

Rating Definition:

Very good with heavy verdigris on the pommel cap, mild oxidation and dark patina on the lock and barrel, faded engraving on the barrel, and aged patina on most of the brass. The stock is fine as refinished and has some slight cracking, distinct carving, and small dings and scratches. The bolster is loose, and the half-cock notch is worn. Otherwise, the lock is mechanically fine.
