Description:

Manufactured in 1941 and 1942, the G41(W) represents a relatively early attempt by the Nazis to deploy a semi-automatic rifle for infantry use, built around the "Bang" patent gas trap system. The Bang system, while promising, was more intricate and fragile than the gas port system that would grow to become an international standard for gas-driven infantry weapons, and the G41 and it's variants were retired in favor of the G/K43 series of rifles. Hooded blade front and tangent rear sights, with the rear sight base also doubling as a scope mounting rail, which in this case is occupied by a "dow" code ZF-41/1 (remarked from ZF-40) scope, serial numbered 13899 with a rear sun shield. The ZF-40 scope and it's later variants were conceived as a "shooter's aid", intended for issue on the squad or platoon level to supplement the skills of an already advanced infantryman, similar to the modern designated marksman/squad sniper concept, with the base raised up to permit use of the iron sights as well as the scope. The receiver is fully machined, with matching numbers, a solid knob on the bolt carrier, and a stamped trigger guard and magazine with matching numbers overall. Fitted with a smooth pistol grip stock numbered to match the rifle, a dark bakelite upper handguard, a cupped steel buttplate and a brown leather sling.

Rating Definition:

Fine, with 70% of the original blue finish, showing a mixed brown and gray patina on the gas hardware and receiver, with some bright edge wear and mild spotting and handling marks overall. The stock is very good, with a number of dents and scratches, and some heavier dents concentrated around the forearm and receiver. The optics are clear, with some mild wear on the exterior. The scope base/mount is a reproduction. Mechanically excellent.
