Description:

Measuring 36 3/4 inches overall, with a 25 7/8 inch blade, showing a fine straight hamon and installed in a blackened copper habaki, with a round blackened iron tsuba and other blackened iron furniture, including a set of cherry blossom menuki. The saya is painted black over brown, with a set of iron fittings. The tang is extensively marked and features two mekugi-ana, with the 5-pointed Army star and a 7-symbol signature on the right side, two small stamps on the spine, and a further 8 symbols on the left; research indicates the signature as that of Endo Nagamitsu, aka Endo Eiji, a smith from Chikugo Province born in 1906, apprenticed in 1924, and Army Certified in 1939, with an attributed date of 1943.

Rating Definition:

Fine overall. The blade is excellent with a few minor handling marks, strong hamon and quality grain. The fittings are a bit rough with a pair of retention screws absent from the hilt (one mekugi installed as a substitute), and the saya shows evidence of some old field repairs around the throat.
