This is a 1938 dated Mauser Banner commercial contract Luger pistol chambered in 7.65 mm Luger Auto cartridge. The "v" suffix serial number, "crown/U" proofs, Mauser Banner, commercial 7.65 mm Luger Auto caliber, clearly indicate that this Luger was manufactured when the Mauser factory was still selling commercial contract pistols to various countries in Europe. "The Mauser Parabellum 1930-1946" by Hallock and van de Kant on page 524 lists only a small number of 1938 dated commercial Lugers being sold to other countries with this date and 3 7/8 inch barrels in caliber 7.65 Luger. Based on this information, this is a very rare Luger variation. The chamber is dated "1938," and the Mauser Banner logo is on the front toggle. The left side of the barrel extension, the front of the sight block at the muzzle, and the left side of the breechblock are all stamped with a single "crown/U" commercial proof acceptance mark and no other proofs. It has the full serial number "5632v" stamped on the front of the frame and "5632" stamped on the barrel and barrel extension. The partial serial number "32" is stamped on the various small parts. It is complete with an all blued, unmarked magazine with an aluminum base that has had the number ground off but shows "q" and "eagle/63" proofs.

Fine condition with 80% of a faded refurbished blue finish overall with edge and high spot wear mixed with browning down the frame rails, with spotting and oxidation on the grip straps. The smaller parts retain 50% of their straw colors overall. The grips are in very good condition with nice distinct checkering showing numerous small nicks and chips overall, with wear on both sides with a chip in the upper left rear corner under the safety.
