Description:

Remington's No. 1 rolling block action was one of the most widely used firearms designs of the late 19th century. It was favored by soldiers, hunters, and target shooters around the world. Custer is known to have used one to take a wide variety of game on the Great Plains, and the American team was partially armed with No. 1s when they defeated the Irish team at Creedmoor in 1874. This example has a German silver blade front sight in a dovetailed base, standard elevation adjustable sporting rear sight, "44 S" on the bottom of the barrel ahead of the forearm and "S.T." (set trigger) under the forearm, "E. REMINGTON & SONS. ILION. N.Y." on the top of the barrel, a single set trigger, the patent date block on the left side of the action, and matching serial numbers on the barrel, lower tang, and underside of the buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The rifle has an even brown patina overall and some faint pitting, scattered marks, and minor scratches. The wood is very good and has some scrapes and dings. The action and single set trigger are mechanically fine, and the markings are mostly crisp.
