Manufactured between 1949 and 1955, the Darne uses a novel mobile breech assembly with a set of fixed barrels, the literal reverse of virtually every side by side shotgun on the market. Fitted with a single bead sight on the lightly engraved dished rib, with vine engraving at the chamber and the St. Etienne proofs on the underside of the barrel group along with a set of two Darne punch stamps indicating the grade. The frame is lightly engraved, and the breechblock shows a fine set of scroll and floral decorations, punch-dot borders and sculpted designs on the recoil shield. Fitted with a checkered round knob grip two-piece stock, with sling swivels and a checkered black plastic Herters buttplate. Measurements: bore diameter at 9 inches from breech right .670/left .670 inches; wall thickness at 9 inches from breech right .05/left .05 inches; muzzle diameter right .655/left .640 (approximately modified/full); chamber 2 9/16 inches; drop at comb 1 3/8 inches; drop at heel 2 1/4 inches; length of pull 14 1/4 inches; cast neutral; 3/4 inches toe out; weight 5 pounds 11.2 ounces.

Very good as partially refinished (barrels), with 80% of the blue finish, showing scattered light spotting and minor edge wear and handling marks overall. The frame and breechblock show a fine gray color, with a brown color in the protected areas, possibly from storage grease. The stock is good, with the replacement buttplate a bit oversized and some mild dings and handling marks. Mechanically very good.
