Description:

Beaded blade front and automatic flip up rear notch sights on the rib marked "TIMNER, G.M.B.H. COBLENZ". The rib is fitted with claw style scope bases. The left barrel is inscribed "MAJOR J.W. DOWNER U.S. ARMY". Features fine, broad leaf floral scroll and game scene engraving. Dual triggers, cocking indicators, Greener style side safety, and a tang mounted selector/rear sight actuator switch. Mounted on a checkered forearm and stock with a scalloped horn grip cap, sling swivels, raised cheekpiece, and a serrated horn buttplate. Major J.W. Downer served from 1904 to 1943 first in the Philippines and then in Europe during World War I. He returned to the U.S. after serving with the Army of Occupation in Coblenz, Germany, in 1923.

Rating Definition:

Very good as refinished with 85% of the thinned blue finish, traces of light spotting under the blue, handling marks overall, and mild edge and high point wear. The receiver has a smooth gray patina overall with small remnants of protective varnish. The wood is fine with small indentations, well defined checkering, and a newer coat of varnish.
