Description:

Around 8,000 No. 3 First Model revolvers were manufactured in the early 1870s before Smith & Wesson introduced minor changes that resulted in the Second Model and then Third Model variations. These revolvers pre-date Colt's influential Single Action Army revolvers and had distinct advantages in ease of reloading and speed. This example has the correct pinned German silver round blade front sight, integral notch rear sight on the top strap latch, the one-line address and patent markings ending in "69" flanked by Maltese crosses on the rib, smooth walnut grips, matching assembly numbers on the latch, barrel, cylinder, and grip frame; and matching serial numbers on the butt and right grip panel.

Rating Definition:

Fine with 50% plus original blue and casehardened finish overall. There is gray and brown patina on the balance and some light spotting. The grips are very good and have mild edge wear. The butt of the grips and grip frame have numerous small hammering marks. Mechanically excellent.
