Description:

This revolver was part of a 86 gun shipment sent to Wexel & DeGress in either New York City or Mexico City on July 5, 1871. Wexel & DeGress were major suppliers of arms to Porfirio Diaz and his allies. All of the revolvers were shipped without grips, all had 8 inch barrels, and 71 were nickel plated. The lack of grips obviously indicates the retailer or distributor intended to fit their own grips, possibly based on direct customer requests. There are matching "0.0" assembly markings on several components. The barrel has the standard address and patent marking, and the butt has the serial number. The grips are smooth bone and are numbered "76460" and "78992."

Rating Definition:

Very fine. 85% plus of the bright, polished, original nickel plating remains. Flaking is concentrated on and near the cylinder. The hammer and trigger guard has faint case colors and minor spotting. The slightly undersized grips are fine and have attractive natural coloration and grain as well as some age cracks and handling wear. The action is mechanically excellent, and the markings are crisp.
