Description:

Approximately 5,000 commercial and rejected contract "Old Old Model Russian" revolvers were manufactured in the early 1870s compared to over 20,000 manufactured for the Russian contracts. This example has the standard barrel address and 1860, 1865, and 1869 patent markings followed by "RUSSIAN MODEL" on the rib between Maltese crosses. Matching assembly markings are on the barrel latch, cylinder, and heel, and the butt and right grip panel have the matching serial number. It has the standard pinned "half moon" blade front sight and an integral notch rear sight on the latch. The revolver is basically a standard No. 3 American revolver chambered for .44 Russian. This model is said to have been used by famed outlaw and gunfighter John Wesley Harden in 1874 when he murdered a lawman supposedly after the man had pulled a gun.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. 70% plus of the original, bright blue finish remains. Most of the fading is along the sides of the barrel and top of the rib. There are also a few small patches of mild pitting, general edge wear, scattered small marks and scratches, and some light spotting. The hammer and trigger guard retain half of the subdued original case colors. The grips are fine and have some minor strike marks and scratches. It is mechanically excellent and has crisp markings.
