Description:

Only 8,000 of these revolvers were manufactured in 1870-1872. This Model was the first cartridge revolver issued by the U.S. military. It pre-dates the iconic Colt Single Action Army revolver by three years. The Model 3 series revolvers were also much faster to reload than the Single Action Army, but the Ordnance Department ultimately favored Colt's solid frame design. Many of these were carried by western icons including Buffalo Bill Cody as a showman and allegedly Wyatt Earp at the shootout at the O.K. Corral. They were also used by the James-Younger Gang. This example has a slightly trimmed German silver blade front sight, standard notch rear sight, standard barrel markings, and matching numbers.

Rating Definition:

Fine. 40% plus of the original blue finish remains along with traces of original case colors. The balance has primarily brown patina and along with some areas of light spotting. The grips are very good and have mild edge wear and small marks. Mechanically excellent. The markings are crisp throughout.
