The included factory letter confirms the serial number, gauge, trap configuration, extra barrel assembly, stock, and that the shotgun was received in the warehouse on August 17, 1903, and shipped from the warehouse on August 18, 1903. The shotgun is currently fitted with the 26 inch barrel with a single steel bead sight, 2 3/4 inch chamber, and cylinder choke. The top of the barrel is marked with the standard two-line address and patent dates roll stamp followed by "12" at the breech. The top of the receiver is factory matted, and the bolt is correctly marked "TRAP GUN". The receiver features a casehardened hammer and nitre blue screws. Some visible internal parts are also nitre blue. Mounted with a multi-point checkered slide handle and a Model 1893 straight grip stock with fine checkering and small inlaid black diamonds on eight side of the wrist and a checkered Winchester hard rubber buttplate. The shotgun features all matching visible numbers. The extra barrel set is equipped with a single steel bead sight, 2 3/4 inch chamber, full choke, and its own checkered slide handle. The set includes a russet leather leg of mutton case with a blank brass inscription boss and compartments for both barrels and the stocked receiver. Stock measurements are: drop at comb 1 5/8 inches; drop at heel 2 3/8 inches; length of pull 13 inches

Excellent with 97% plus of the bright original high polish blue finish remaining. Displaying small handling marks, cycling and takedown marks on the action bars, magazine tubes, and barrels. Vivid case colors on the hammer and bright nitre blue on the small parts. The wood is also excellent with attractive grain and figure, some handling marks, and crisp well defined checkering. The extra barrel assembly is excellent overall with 95% bright original blue. Mechanically excellent. The case is fine with storage and handling marks, cracking on the closure strap and edge wear. You will not find a better Winchester Model 1897 Black Diamond Shotgun!
