Manufactured 1961 and subsequently custom embellished. This is a beautiful example of a custom engraved, inlaid and carved example of a pre-64 Winchester Model 70 bolt action rifle. The craftsmanship demonstrates the precision of a master artisan. The barrel features both gold and silver inlaid bands at the muzzle and breech and engraved semi-relief floral scrollwork at the muzzle, at the breech and ahead of the rear sight. This scrollwork incorporates gold and silver inlaid accents. The engraving at the breech also incorporates gold and silver inlaid leaves. The embellishment at the breech is 3 1/2 inches long, and the embellishment ahead of the rear sight is 4 inches long. The barrel retains the factory legend followed by "30-06 SPFLD" on the left side. The scrollwork and inlay extend to the floorplate and trigger guard. Amongst the scrollwork on the floorplate is a raised and highly detailed stag resting in the brush. This scene is outlined in gold scroll inlay. The rifle is equipped with a hooded ramp front sight and an adjustable folding leaf rear sight. The Winchester factory oval proof is stamped on the left side of the barrel and receiver at the breech. The receiver is tapped for scope/sight mounting, is marked "WINCHESTER/-TRADE MARK-" on the left side and has a late safety. The polished bolt is numbered to the gun and has a hollow knob. The high comb pistol grip stock features a high relief oak leaf carving on a dot background with high relief borders. The stock has sling swivels and a plastic checkered buttplate.

Very fine as professionally custom embellished. The rifle retains 98% plus of the blue finish showing mild thinning on the bolt handle and a number of minor scratches on the inside of the trigger guard. The stock is also very fine showing limited mild handling marks. Mechanically excellent. A true work of firearm artistry that would add value to any sporting bolt action rifle collection.
