Produced in 1970, this pistol was one of the final Government Model pistols made before the switch to the Series 70 nomenclature, with the "BB" stamp on the frame to designate the use of the 70 style barrel bushing. In addition, the pistol has been fitted with a 38 Special "Kit" barrel, part of a limited run circa 1959-1970 of component kits that were made deliberately oversized for professional gunsmiths to custom fit for competitive shooting, and a slide with a large cutaway on the left side through the "COLT" markings. The barrel is marked "COLT .38 SPEC./ KIT" on top, "1" on the left side in electric pencil and "M P" on the lug, with an opened ramp. Sights not included. The Colt "VP" proof was removed and then restamped on the trigger guard. It is fitted with checkered reinforced Coltwood-style grips. With factory letter, which states that this arm was retained by the factory and a experimental prototype, and a blue plastic case with Series 80 manual.

Very good with 85% of the original finish on the frame showing scratches and handling marks overall and a mixture of brown patina and blue finish on the slide and barrel. The grips are excellent with overall sharp checkering. Mechanically fine.
