Description:

Springfield/Krag Rifle manufactured in 1902. The rifle has the original Model 1901 folding leaf rear sight and 1901 pattern handguard. The receiver and loading gate have a dark, oil-quenched, case-hardened finish. The barrel, barrel bands, trigger guard and buttplate are blue, and the bolt is bright with a niter blue extractor. The stock and handguard are oil finished black walnut. The left side of the receiver is marked: "U.S./MODEL 1898. SPRINGFIELD ARMORY 400285" in two lines. The left side of the stock wrist is stamped with a script "JSA/1902" final inspection mark in a rectangle, and the underside of the stock wrist has an encircled script "P" proofmark. The rifle is fitted with a correct 1903 dated Rock Island marked russet leather sling.

Rating Definition:

Excellent plus. The rifle retains 98% of the bright original blue and 99% crisp original casehardened finish with extremely minor edge wear. The buttplate is excellent with 95% blue. The stock is also excellent plus with several small pressure dents on the upper wrist and some minor storage marks overall. The receiver markings, final inspection stamp and firing proof are all excellent. The sling is excellent.
