Description:

The four-digit serial numbered action was manufactured pre-1876 and is thus early enough to have been at the Battle of Little Bighorn (although it was not). It has a bayonet stud/blade front sight, notch and folding ladder rear sight numbered 1-5 on the base and 6-12 on the ladder, early "MODEL/1873/eagle head/crossed arrows/US" marked high arch breechblock, the federal eagle motif and "U.S./SPRINGFIELD/1873" on the lock plate, and a solid "US" marked buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Very good as refurbished. The barrel retains 40% of the blue finish and has mostly gray patina on the balance. The breech displays strong and vibrant case colors (should be dark oil quenched colors). The remaining parts have patches of finish and mostly mottled gray and brown patina. There are areas of minor spotting and numerous minor marks and scratches. The revarnished stock is a fine replacement with holes for the case extractor under buttplate, no inspector markings, and some minor chips, dents, and scratches. Mechanically excellent.
