The rifle has the standard Model 1888 markings and features and also has a front sight cover. The cartouche is dated "1891." The Springfield Research Service letter indicates it was issued to Neals Anderson of G Company in the 3rd U.S. Infantry. A copy of the U.S. Army "Register of Enlistments" page that includes Anderson and some copies of some related photographs are included. The 3rd Infantry was stationed in Montana, Minnesota, and South Dakota from 1877 to 1898 and was involved in defending the Great Northern Railroad during the Pullman Strike, the disaster response efforts after forest fires in northern Minnesota, and the Battle of Sugar Point in 1898.

Rating Definition:

Very good plus. 20% of the original blue finish and traces of case colors remain. The balance has primarily brown patina. There are scattered minor marks and some light spotting. The stock is very good and has a crisp cartouche, small dents and minor scratches, and some minor surface chipping, especially by the rear lock screw on the left flat. Mechanically fine.
