Description:

This Winchester Model 1873 was manufactured in 1894. The two-line address/King's improvement patent dates are marked on the top barrel flat ahead of the rear sight with "44 W.C.F." at the breech. The upper tang is marked "MODEL. 1873." The serial is marked on the lower tang, and the bottom of the brass cartridge elevator is marked "44 CAL." It has dovetailed German silver blade front sight, adjustable buckhorn sporting rear sight, blue finish with casehardened hammer, lever and buttplate; and is mounted with a smooth walnut forearm with a metal forend cap and straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate with compartment containing a 4-piece cleaning rod.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The rifle retains 60% plus original blue finish showing edge and high point wear, thinning and some minor oxidation on the underside, front of the receiver. 70% of the bright original niter blue remains on the loading gate. Half of the faded original case colors remain on the hammer. The lever has a smooth silver/gray patina, and the buttplate has a smooth mottled gray patina. The wood is very good with some of an overcoat of protective varnish, scattered minor dents, dings and scratches. The markings are clear. The action is excellent.
