Description:

Manufactured in 1850, this is a later production scarce variation of the Colt Model 1848 Baby Dragoon revolver with a loading lever, rectangular cylinder stops and stagecoach holdup scene on the cylinder. These revolvers were in the serial number range of approximately 11600 to 15500. The top barrel flat is marked "ADDRESS SAML COLT/NEW YORK CITY" inside brackets. "COLTS" of the "COLTS/PATENT" marking is stamped upside down on the left side of the frame (unique factory error). Matching numbers are found on the barrel, frame, grip straps, cylinder, barrel wedge and arbor pin. It has brass cone front and hammer notch rear sights, blue barrel and cylinder, silver plated brass trigger guard and back strap, and casehardened remaining parts. Fitted with a smooth one piece varnished walnut grip.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The barrel retains 60% original blue finish with the balance a smooth brown patina. Traces of original blue finish remains on the cylinder, otherwise a smooth gray patina with much of the scene remaining. The hammer, frame and loading lever retain traces of original case colors. Some minor pitting is present. The grip strap retain 85% original silver plating. The grip is very fine showing some minor handling marks and retaining most of the varnish. Mechanically fine.
