This revolver is one of just 2,200 Model 1861 Navy revolvers converted or manufactured for metallic cartridge revolver in the mid 1870s and is one of few Model 1861 Navy revolvers purchased for the U.S. Navy and then later converted by Colt. The serial number dates to 1861. The barrel has the one-line New York address and "R.W.M.[anchor]" on the bottom. The frame has the 1871 and 1872 patent marking over traces of the original "COLTS/PATENT" mark. The trigger guard is marked "36 CAL" on the left. Matching serial numbers are marked throughout including in the back strap inlet of the grip. The wedge is blank, and no U.S. Navy markings are on the back strap.

Rating Definition:

Very good plus with traces of original blue finish in the protected areas, strong blue on several screws, 30% of the original case colors, aged patina on the grip frame, and gray and brown patina on the balance. The refinished grip is also very good and has numerous dings and scrapes and some slight chipping at the toe. Mechanically fine.
